Nokia 5230 Handset
The 5230 is very familiar to the previous slim style handsets from Nokia, it compares to the likes of the 5800 and the 5530. The similarities end right here, this is no mere handset; this is a rival to the top of the market smartphones at a more competitive price. This handset could be seen as a lite smartphone as it takes full advantage of the S60 operating system, which all Nokia smartphones use, without being an actual smartphone. Why not make the 5230 a smartphone? Every one of Nokia's previous smartphones have been in the N or the E series and these are aimed towards the high end of the market, very expensive phones for those in high places that can afford them. This cheaper Nokia 5230 handset offers the highest spec in its price range, meaning that you won't need to pay for an expensive smartphone to have all the smartphone goodies.

Display & Keypad - Featuring a crystal clear 3.2" TFT widescreen display, the Nokia 5230 supports a resolution of 360×640 with 16 million colours. Data entry to the handset is done via your fingers or the use of a stylus pen; Handwriting recognition software for which is preloaded. Three keypad layouts are present within the phone. Firstly there is the standard alphanumeric keypad which makes use of predictive text or multi-tap and can be used in both portrait and landscape view. Secondly there is a mini QWERTY keypad for use with fingers or the stylus and again can be used in both portrait and landscape. Lastly there is the typing optimised full QWERTY keyboard which can only be used in landscape mode.
Music & Networking - While not being advertised or sold as a music handset the 5230 does have a fully capable and functional music system. As said previous the Nokia 5230 takes advantage of all that S60 has to offer, this includes the media player which supports a wide range of formats. You can take your MP3, WAV and WMA music files and create playlists, organise and sort your music via the music library. This handset makes use of MicroSD memory cards for up to 16GB of storage space. The disk space in phone is only 70MB. Listening to your music with earphones is done via the standard 3.5mm audio jack so you are not limited by what headsets you can use with this phone. The handset supports Bluetooth 2.0 to allow for easy movement of music between PC and phone. The internet connection has a speed of up to 3.6Mbps via HSDPA support. Lastly the Nokia 5230 handset includes a FM radio which has a total of 20 programmable preset stations.
Online Features, GPS & Extras - The 5230 supports Nokia's Ovi online suite which allows for access to a huge array of features including music, mail and storage. Multiple connection options as well as HSDPA include EDGE, GPRS and HSCSD. The handset has an inbuilt A-GPS Chip which when combined with Ovi Maps turns the 5230 into a GPS navigation system showing you your world in detailed 3D maps. The Nokia 5230 allows for quick and easy access to all your online social networking sites, in fact this access is achieved with just one touch!
In conclusion the Nokia 5230 is most impressive for its slot in the market. It is not quite a smartphone but it is not far behind and offers a wide array of features that phones in the same price range simply do not have.
